Conor Maxwell continues to successfully double-job as a jockey and steered a 16/1 winner at Dundalk this evening, with the Keith Clarke trained Tara Power in the DundalkStadium.com Handicap (div II).
Dual-purpose Maxwell was successful at Dundalk last Friday and since then, took weekend jump rides at Cork and Down Royal, beach racing at Laytown on Monday and had four rides at Fairyhouse yesterday, including a spin in a three-miles beginners chase.
Today, the Leopardstown Chase-winning jockey produced Tara Power from off the pace in the mile contest, to eventually beat International Lady by half a length.
Trainer Clarke later said “he was a bit sleepy out of the stalls and it was his first time racing under lights. He’s a good little horse and I’ve thought a bit of him from the start of the year. He was gelded and we’ve given him a bit of time.
“This is special because he’s a homebred horse. My brother Ivan sourced the mare for Karl Davis and Jack Fogarty for this syndicate (Phoenix Bloodstock). It’s Ivan’s birthday today and I’m delighted for him.
“I’d planned to give him a break after tonight but we’ll see how he is in the morning and go from there. He’s a horse to look forward to for next year and will probably be better on turf being by Estidhkaar.”
