Three were in with a chance passing the furlong pole in the COLM QUINN BMW Handicap Chase and it was Doonbeg Don (11/2) who found a bit extra to score under Mike O'Connor.
Second in a point-to-point and a six-race maiden over hurdles, the Soldier Of Fortune gelding was making a winning debut over regulation fences and got home by half-a-length and a head from Desert Heather and Pipers Boreen who had led turning for home.
The winner is owned by the Freebooter Syndicate and is trained by Henry de Bromhead who was also amongst the winners at Wexford earlier in the afternoon.
"His form was good and consistent over hurdles and his saddle slipped the last day which was definitely no help to him," said O'Connor.
"Any of Henry's seem to improve when running over fences and, while he got headed turning in, he put his head down, dug deep and was tough. It was a fair test of stamina.
"I know him well from riding him at home and hopefully he can go on again from today."
