Mickie Angel (well-backed 2/1fav) provided jockey Keith Donoghue with a Fairyhouse double today, as the Hennelly-family’s homebred seven-year-old scored a maiden success in the Bobbyjo Day February 22nd Handicap Hurdle (Div I).

Lightly-raced and runner-up in both a point-to-point in 2023 and a maiden hurdle last year, Mickie Angel today improved to lead travelling well at the second-last and won easily from Lilian Bland

Jockey Donoghue had earlier won on Philip Dempsey's Quornofamonday and following his double, Mickie Angel’s trainer Gavin Cromwell reported “I thought I’d have won with him before now but I got it wrong the last day, we rode him too positively and he was too keen.

“He loved that ground and in or around that trip is ideal for him. He looks like a horse that will jump a fence: a big staying horse. It’s nice to win a race with him.”
