Donnelly delighted as Prince breaks maiden "He's a bit quirky and I didn't think he would handle the all-weather as he goes well on soft," admitted trainer Garvan Donnelly after his Carrigeen Prince prevailed at odds of 7/1 in the second division of the Crowne Plaza Leading Jockey & Trainer Championship Handicap. Donagh O'Connor held Carrigeen Prince up, but he was in touch, and he was ridden two furlongs out. The eight times previously tried maiden stayed on well under pressure from over a furlong out to lead well inside the final furlong, asserting close home to beat Voyageofdiscovery by a length. "He should jump a hurdle with the size of him," added Donnelly. "I'm delighted for the lads (The Prince Partnership) who include the breeder Frank Prendergast, my father Malachy and my brother Donnacha." (AM & EM)
