Donnacha at the double with Simply Glorious Donnacha O’Brien completed a near 24/1 double when Simply Glorious landed the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden. Backed from 7/2 this morning, Gavin Ryan’s mount was sent off 13/8 favourite and raced close to the pace but looked booked for minor money when the newcomer Osraige went on over a furlong out. All was to change, however, as the latter conceded the initiative and momentum when she shied away from the whip and veered left over 100 yards out leaving Simply Glorious to come home half a length in front of market rival Knocklane Lass (15/8). The errant Osraige (4/1) finished a further length and a quarter back in third. O’Brien and Ryan had earlier been on the scoresheet with another juvenile, Lesson Learned, and the winning trainer commented: “We liked her early on in the year and she had a few good runs in maidens. She got a bit weak and we gave her a break. “She was working well and we brought her back here. It’s nice to get a win into her. She has a very good pedigree so that was important. “I suppose we’ll put her away now and look for some black type next year. “I think she’ll stay further and I don’t see a mile and a quarter being a problem. She’s by War Front so probably a sound surface is going to be important to her.” Simply Glorious is out of a Group 1 winner and is a full-sister to two who scored at the highest level, Roly Poly and US Navy Flag.
