Jessica Harrington confessed to being still on a high after Magic Of Light’s gallant second in the Randox Health Grand National, and Discordantly maintained her smile when just getting the verdict in the Colm Quinn BMW Maiden Hurdle at Fairyhouse.
The Salutino gelding has been placed a number of times this term and was sent off a well-backed 9/4 chance against 23 rivals.
Robbie Power ’s mount and La Tektor fought out a tremendous battle on the run-in with just a short-head separating the pair at the line, with 2/1 favourite The Gunner Murphy a length and a half back in third.
The first two came close a few times in the closing stages and the places were confirmed after a stewards enquiry.
Harrington said, “That’s great to get his head in front, and it was a competitive maiden hurdle. He’ll have just one more run in Punchestown, and will come back chasing next year.
“He has that one run and he idled a bit in front.”
