Trainer Dick Donohoe added to his recent Curragh Finale Stakes win with a second success this month as his River Derwent (10/1) gained an overdue win in Dundalk's Dundalk Stadium Gift Vouchers Handicap (div I).
Ridden by Adam Caffrey, the Kingman-gelding was produced from rear-division to lead inside the final furlong, beating James Henry by a length and a quarter.
Gowran-based Donohoe, with a Cheltenham winner last November and whose Vishio scored at the Curragh on November 5, reported "River Derwent has been coming down the weights although we thought he might never win!
“He had been running better recently - he was fifth a couple of weeks ago and wasn't really lasting (over a mile), but the seven seemed to suit him well. Adam is very, very good, is very strong for an apprentice and rides with his head."
"We will have three or four to run for the winter. It has been a good year and a winner here makes the long journey (from Gowran) worthwhile."
