Deressa came home best to get off the mark for Dermot Weld in the GowranPark.ie (Fillies) Maiden over an extended nine-furlongs.

Chris Hayes was content to sit in third behind Nuit and Win Me Over who were tussling away for the lead.

They both came under the pump in the final two furlongs and Deressa began to inch closer.

Win Me Over (8/11f) got the better of Nuit a furlong and a-half down, but Deressa looked threatening in second racing to the final furlong.

She got to grips with the leader in the closing stages and stayed on nicely to score by a length and a-quarter from the favourite.

This was Deressa's fifth career start and built upon a close fourth over a shorter trip when last seen at this track in October.

Dermot Weld said: “She did it well and everything worked out.

“She was very consistent last year, was rated 82 coming into today, and carried through that consistent form to win.

"She was fit and well coming here and got a lovely ride from Chris Hayes.”
