Local jockey Kevin Brouder gave Unexpected Depth a confident ride as he ran out a cosy winner of the Listowel Handicap Hurdle at the Kerry venue this afternoon.
The Oliver McKiernan-trained gelding was sent to post a solid 3/1 favourite for the two-and-a-half mile contest after a cosy success at Sligo last time out.
Brouder produced him to lead before the second last and despite an untidy jump there he soon asserted.
The Shantou gelding was well on top in the closing stages as he eased up to record a four-and-a-half length success over the running on Buttons And Bows
McKiernan said: “Kevin gave him a grand ride. We were hopeful enough. He seems to be improving a bit and he’s definitely settling better.
“It’s his first time in a handicap but I’m not sure if he’s going to be a soft ground horse so we might not have that much more racing to do with him this year if the ground changes.
“Kevin said it’s sticky enough ground over the far side.”
Brouder had also been on the mark at Listowel on Sunday when scoring on Miss Mcilroy.
