De Senectute who was having his first run for trainer Willie Mullins got off to a good start after he ran out an impressive winner of the Coleman Quarries Handicap in the hands of Pat Smullen.
Smullen’s mount who travelled well throughout took up the lead at the two furlong marker and the pair soon sprinted clear to record a nine length win over Lus Na Hoiche
Winning jockey Smullen said afterwards: “She travelled well throughout and she did it really well.”
“It was probably a moderate enough race but in these lower grade handicaps I was always waiting for something to come from behind.”
