Henry De Bromhead allows Gold Cup hopeful Monty's Star to take his chance in the Grade 1 Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown on day one of the Dublin Racing Festival.
De Bromhead told Dave Keena he’s hopeful Monty’s Star will come on from his runner-up berth in a Grade 3 at Tramore on New Year's Day, but it’s a big task to try and beat Galopin des Champs.
The trainer said: "Yeah, he ran a nice race (in Tramore). We hope he will come on a lot for the run - obviously, he needs to. We were happy, it was good to get started.
"Yeah, you'd hope so (appreciate better ground in Leopardstown), he sort of goes on any ground.
"We had a few hold ups there coming into the race (at Tramore) and it probably wasn't idea, but we needed to get him started.
"His novice form looks good. Obviously, Galopin Des Champs has been brilliant, so he will be a hard one to beat. Hopefully, we will give a good account of ourselves."
Monty's Star was runner-up in the Grade 1 Brown Advisory at last season's Cheltenham Festival behind Fact To File who also contests the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup today.
