Jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle completed a treble on the final afternoon of the Flat season when Dawn Rising claimed the featured Group 3 Comer Group International Loughbrown Stakes at the Curragh.

Twice in the winners' enclosure earlier in the afternoon, the Donegal man made it a three-timer with a well judged hands and heels ride aboard the Joseph O'Brien trained gelding in the big race on the card.

Held up last of the five runners as Lily Hart set the pace, McMonagle was travelling easily as the quartet in front of him entered the home straight.

Pushed along to take second over two furlongs out, Dawn Rising gradually ate into the lead, drawing alongside Lily Hart 50 yards from the finish.

Edging ahead close home, the J.P. McManus owned seven-year-old had half-a-length in hand at the line.

Frank Berry rep JP McManus said: “He was good and tough. He ran a good race in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket and this race suited him as they went a good pace and he stayed on best up the straight.

“Hopefully he’ll be back for those sorts of races next year and he’s run at Royal Ascot the last couple of years.

“The handicapper may have caught up with him a bit, but he’ll be competitive in those Group 3’s.

“It’s hard to get them sort of horses. He doesn’t mind the ground whether it is good or heavy and hasn’t lost any of his enthusiasm.”
