Cullig a special winner for Foley and O'Sullivan The Pat Foley-trained Cullig pulled away in fine style to run out a wide margin winner of the Gentleman’s League Handicap Hurdle at Cork. Alan O’Sullivan produced his mount to challenge three from home in the three-mile amateur contest and she went on before the second last. The Walk In The Park mare was clear when landing a bit steep at the last and the 12/1 shot went on to post an easy 20 length success over Not May. It was a poignant winner for Foley, particularly with Michael O’Sullivan’s brother Alan in the saddle:- "That was extra-special as it’s my first winner since Michael’s passing, and also Alan’s first on the track since. Michael would have been part of this filly’s career as she wasn’t straightforward at the start.  "It took a lot of getting the hang of her, and Michael played a huge part in doing that, in getting her to the stage at which she could go out and show what she was capable. It’s extra special that Alan was the one to ride her  today. “She was a bit lairy in front, but she’s still learning so there should be a bit of improvement from her, hopefully. It’s great to get that on the page for the breeding, being a half-sister to Command Of Fleet, a Grade 1 winner, and her owners are breeders. “The owners are all from Cork (Buttevant) as well, so it’s a complete local success. Eugene and Maxine are here as well, and I’m delighted for them all." (Quotes by Tom Weekes)
