Cowboy gets up close home for Mullins & Foley The Tony Mullins trained Naked Cowboy got up close home to deny Mountain Mama and win the St. John's Literary Handicap under Shane Foley. The 5yo son of Statue Of Liberty won at Gowran on his penultimate start in April but disappointed last time out finishing eleventh of nineteen behind Wrekin Rock when sent off the 5/1 joint favourite Despite that poor effort he was sent off the 5/2 favourite for today’s contest. Enough Is Enough attempted to make all under Seamie Heffernan but was caught inside the final furlong by Mountain Mama. However she couldn’t hold off the challenge Naked Cowboy from there and had to settle for second at 5/1 a neck behind the winner. College Sam at 20/1 was a further two and three parts of a length back in third under Ray Dawson. Winning trainer Tony Mullins said afterwards: "Shane thought the ground was as heavy as he would want it but I thought he wanted that ground. "We are learning more as to how to ride him. He kept arriving but found very little. He just comes with one run now. "Shane seems to get on very well with him as he does with all horses he rides and we will try and find a similar race for him now." Mullins was of course recording his second winner in as many days after scoring with Clarach at Tramore yesterday. Donal Murphy & Thomas Weekes
