Don Cossack's farrier and Grade 1 winning trainer Gavin Cromwell continues to do a bang-up job as he combines both roles and landed the Supporting The Irish Injured Jockeys Fund European Breeders Fund Mares Maiden Hurdle at Downpatrick today with Midnight Theatre
The month of March has been particularly good for Cromwell and, having seen Don Cossack win the Gold Cup for his employer Gordon Elliott, in his 'spare time' trained J.P. McManus' recent acquisition Jer's Girl's to win the Grade 1 Mares Novice Hurdle at the Fairyhouse Festival, on Monday.
Today, Midnight Theatre, under Luke Dempsey, continued his roll, as the point-to-point winning daughter of King's Theatre made it fifth time lucky on the racecourse, staying on well on the run-in to beat Steel's Cotton
Afterwards Cromwell stated “it was a moderate race and she's slow and wants every yard of that trip - she wants three miles really. She'll go chasing next year and jumps a fence well.
Cromwell added "it's been a brilliant few days” and when asked whether leading owner McManus is to send him more horses, he replied: "not as yet!"
