Jockey Sean Corby gained his second career victory when keeping Revoution (12/1) arrow straight as the pair headed for home in the mile apprentice handicap in Dundalk.
The French-bred mare won a flat race in her native country at Deauville back in December 2012. Since then, however, she has been campaigned on the flat and over hurdles with no success until tonight. She was nibbled at in the betting ring from 14/1 to 12/1. This was the first time the combination of a hood and cheekpieces was tried on her.
Former pony racer Corby had her at the head of affairs with a furlong to race and she kept on to deprive Zeftan (5/1) by a neck. Gold Falcon was a length off the pair in third at 9/1.
“The first race didn't go so well and Sean ended up with a bloody nose,” handler James Lambe said.
“I think Sean is absolutely great value for his claim. It's great for the owner Brian Smyth who has been very loyal and has a good few horses with me.
“This filly is a tricky customer but has loads of ability. She was only beaten two-and-a-half lengths up the Curragh in a competitive contest but lost her way after.
“Hopefully this will help and she might make a good filly on the turf. She'll go hurdling again during the summer when the ground gets a bit tighter.”
She’s Not Simple unshipped Corby as they left the parade ring before the first race. She then stayed rooted in the stalls when they opened.
