Running Cool got up close home under Wayne Lordan to win the Sign Up To Our Newsletter Handicap for trainer Natalia Lupini at Cork.
Despite slightly missing the break from his inside stall, Lordan soon had the three-year-old colt towards the head of a group of six on that side of the track.
Meanwhile, the Andrew Slattery ridden Mount Ruapehu led the remaining four runners on the stands side. As the field began to merge over a furlong out, the latter held a definite advantage over his rivals.
However, Lordan found plenty when asking the eventual winner for more, with the Bobby's Kitten colt staying on well to get on top over 100 yards from the line.
Owner Craig Bryson said: "he is progressing away well and was down in trip but has always shown plenty of pace at home. To look at, he looks like a seven-furlong horse but he is racey and likes to get on with it, so we dropped him back in trip.
"He will progress, will mature into himself as he is still a wee bit raw to look at. We like him, hopefully he can keep going and we'll step him up gradually. He got away with the ground today but wants quick ground."
