Conneely rides 1st winner Young Galway apprentice Jason Conneely got off the mark, for his boss, John Murphy, when 11/1 hope Uncharted Waters landed the Daily Tips On thetote.com Apprentice Handicap at Ballinrobe. Conneely has no family background in the game and his sporting interest was football growing up. He was keen to credit Murphy for providing rides when things weren't as busy as he'd have hoped. Uncharted Waters herself had gone close more than once in the past, but on outing number fourteen it all came together for the blinkered daughter of Intikhab, as she got the better of Byron Beauty by a length and a half. The third home, Glendaars Best, had looked a likely winner after being always to the fore, travelling well, but he had no more to give inside the last and finished a short head off the principals in third. Money horses, favourite, Get Out Of Jail (5s into 3s), and Ondamoura (16s earlier into 8s) had to make do with twelfth and ninth places respectively. The Stewards interviewed J.L. Joyce, rider of Ondamoura, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that J.L. Joyce was in breach of R10(3)(b) by the continued use of his whip after his chance of winning or being placed was clearly gone and R10(3)(f) by using his whip with excessive force. The Stewards consequently suspended J.L. Joyce for 3 racedays having taken his previous record into consideration. (DM & EM)
