Comfort Zone bridged a gap of nearly two years without a win when landing a gamble in the €100,000 Colm White Bookmaker Beggar’s End Handicap.
The JP McManus-owned gelding, available at 12/1 overnight and further supported on track from 6/1 into 4/1 favourite, kept on strongly down the centre of the track under Dylan Browne McMonagle to land this valuable two-mile event.
The dual-purpose gelding got on top in the closing stages staying on strongly to beat Toll Stone by a length and three-quarters. Jabbar was just a nose back in third with topweight Falcon Eight keeping on late to complete the places in fourth.
McManus’ racing manager Frank Berry, “He rode him for a bit of luck and he gave him a lovely ride.
“He was a little bit disappointing in the Cesarewitch where he came there with a chance two down and didn’t get home but he stayed well today.
“It’s a lovely race to win and you will probably see him back over hurdles somewhere during the winter.
“He likes that ground today.”
This completed a double on the afternoon at Naas for trainer Joseph O’Brien and Browne McMonagle who also combined to take the opener with Miracle Beauty
