The Michael Barry trained Colls Corner overcame an absence of 139 days when bolting up in the Tote Daily Double Races 5 & 6 Handicap Hurdle at Naas today, completing a double for jockey Davy Condon.
Condon moved the nine year old gelding into a clear lead from the final flight before staying on strongly for a six and a half lengths win over Tough Talkin Man with last year’s Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase, at Cheltenham, winner Sizing Australia running a sound race in third.
Afterwards winning trainer Barry said “we were hopeful more than confident today but we weren’t totally surprised he won. Today’s trip was a bit short for him and ideally he wants further than two miles but the ground was a help. He’ll probably go to Thurles for a 2m6f race on Thursday week.”
