Clonmel racecourse will commence construction of a new and long awaited weigh room next month with the Tipperary course hopeful of opening the facility next year.

A new weigh room building had been planned for some years and while held up by delays, new plans are now in place with construction set to begin next month.

Racecourse manager DJ Histon reports “our long awaited plans for a new weigh room are ready to commence. We’ve had a few interruptions along the way, not least covid19 but thankfully we are a the stage where we are about to commence building.

“A new weigh room will incorporate facilities for stewards, medical staff, jockeys, trainers etc so we are looking forward to it. As such it is on a greenfield site and we have taken on board all the learnings from previous builds and have taken the guidelines from HRI and the IHRB and feedbacks from trainers, jockeys and valets.

“It is well due, we are hoping to cut ground in the middle of next month and within 12 months the facility will have been completed. It might have been reported recently that we might never build this, but I can assure you it will be built and we look forward to people enjoying the facility when it is completed.”
