Clashnabrook lands another gamble at Limerick

Clashnabrook, who could have been backed at 25/1 this morning, landed another gamble at Limerick this afternoon, winning the Ryans Event Cleaners Handicap Hurdle at the odds of 8/1 for his trainer Eoghan O’Grady.

The 6yo son of Alderbrook finished second on two of his three runs in point-to-point's back in 2009, including chasing home Peddlers Cross at Liscarroll in March of that year.

After showing nothing of note on his first five starts on the racecourse he ran slightly better last time out on his handicap hurdle debut at Cork staying on from the back to finish thirteen behind Madam Mado.

That race in Cork was over two miles and the step up in trip to two mile five furlongs today seemed to have worked a treat.

Having raced prominently throughout he took up the running approaching the straight but was soon joined by the 7/4 favourite Dr Proctor under Alain Cawley.

After a great battle on the run-in he edged in front to score by half a length at the line under Conor Maxwell.

The pair went six and a half lengths clear of the third placed horse who was Vicalus for Susan Finn at 10/1.

After the race the Stewards referred the improvement in form case on to the referrals committee for further investigation.
