The John Flavin trained Clarens showed real battling qualities to get back up close home to win the QuinnBet.com Rated Novice Chase at Tramore.

Having made much of the running, the eight-year-old was strongly pressed by Enjoy The Dream after jumping three out.

The latter got upsides and went on after the penultimate fence but a mistake at the last opened the door for Alex Harvey to get a renewed effort out of the 5/1 chance who rallied late on to win by half-a-length.

The win brought up a double for Dubliner Harvey who had earlier been successful aboard Long Gone in the mares maiden hurdle.

Double for Alex Harvey, he said: "It was a great jumping performance, he was the horse with the least experience over fences, but he was on springs today. He got his own way in front and I just let him bowl away. He is tough horse and very genuine and John has done a brilliant job with him, it was great to be on his back again today.

Regarding his season, he added: "I had a bit of a flat spot around December time and went nearly four months without a winner, but it's picking up again now. It's probably a bit late for me now (in the race to be crowned champion conditional), but I'll try my best and sure if it's good enough, it's good enough."
