Beat Hollow is a great addition to the stallion ranks in Ireland as he is now resident at Ballylinch Stud in County Kilkenny and his son Charleville showed the prowess of Paul Carberry in the saddle and indeed the skill of his trainer Barry Murphy in the Thorney Bridge Handicap Hurdle at Clonmel.
Having his third start for the County Galway handler, after a long absence, the three time winner back in 2009 when with Kieran Purcell, travelled supremely well from off the pace under Carberry to launch his challenge in the straight. He was going to win barring accidents from between the last two and he ultimately crossed the line an un-extended eight and a half lengths to the good from Offside Rule (ran well considering she helped to set a strong pace).
Murphy said: "Kieran Purcell sourced a few horses for me and this lad was one of them along with Rickardstown (won for Murphy at Hexham around this time last year).
"He's a nice little horse and the saddle slipped on him a little at Ballinrobe the last day when he was running well.
"He got the ground he wanted today.
"I have five in at the minute, five nice horses. I'm training in Clarinbridge and that's my fourth winner all told."
The Stewards requested a report from Mr Barry T. Murphy, trainer, into the apparent improvement in form of his winner Charleville (GB) compared with his previous runs at Clonmel 5th April and Ballinrobe 1st May 2012 when the gelding was beaten 31 lengths and 85 lengths respectively.
The trainer reported that his charge returned to racing at Clonmel after a seven month layoff and made some mistakes in running. He felt that the following run at Ballinrobe was on lively enough ground and possibly over further than he requires. Today his charge reverted back to two miles 110 yards with soft underfoot conditions which he felt contributed to today’s success.
Having considered the report the Stewards noted the content.
