The second half of Cork’s card certainly produced some shocks at 50/1, 16/1 and Celtic Fashion at 20/1 in the finale.
Celtic Fashion and Goldboy pulled well clear as they fought out the spoils in the two mile bumper. It was Celtic Fashion who saw it out best under James ‘Corky’ Carroll to win by three parts of a length.
Goldboy, who was 7/1 in the morning and went off 9/2, was second for Willie and Patrick Mullins while Lennoxtown Lad and Jane Mangan took third at 16/1, another seven and a half lengths adrift.
Dermot Weld’s 4/7 favourite Marty’s Magic could make no impression in the straight and finished sixth with Robbie McNamara in the plate.
Co Kilkenny-based handler Pat Meany trained the six-year-old gelding Celtic Fashion to victory today. This was his first win for 1,529 days or 188 runners.
Celtic Fashion’s last outing saw him third to Devils Bride in a Tipperary bumper in July. Notably he had been backed from 50/1 to 20/1 that day.
Celtic Fashion is by Celtic Swing who won the French Derby in 1995.
The winner paid 30.20 euro on the Tote for a win.
