The Laurels Pub & Restaurant Median Auction Maiden was won by the consistent Castanets (11/4 fav).

Never out of the first four in four previous starts, the 67-rated daughter of Gleneagles raced close to the pace and got the better of a final-furlong tussle with Victoria Kessia by a neck.

The winner is trained by Joseph O'Brien for Paget Bloodstock, Mrs T Gaffney and Mrs Barbara Murphy.

Winning rider Dylan Browne McMonagle said: "She was very tough, has been running very consistently and handles this ground. I think this was a nice trip for her on testing conditions because she probably does stay 1m2f well.

"I was happy to go forward, keep it nice and positive and while she had a look when she hit the front, when Gary (Carroll, on the runner-up) came to me it helped as it kept pushing her and she was good and tough in the last 100 yards.

"She handles good and having handled today's ground, that is a positive for her going on to the last couple of weeks of the season."
