Cassarina Gold lands the spoils for Smith in Cork bumper Cassarina Gold stepped up considerably on three previous runs when landing the concluding Follow Us On Facebook INH Flat Race at Cork. Always racing prominently, the Matthew Smith trained mare led into the straight and kicked clear of her rivals over two furlongs out. Despite the best efforts of the pursuing pack, she wasn't for catching, as she kept on strongly to win under the trainers son, James Kelly Smith. Silver Gazette slipped up early in the straight when still in contention. Matthew Smith said; “The horses were all out of form and I had a few lined up for James to ride. I’m delighted to get him a winner. He works hard around the yard and is a good little rider. “She ran well in a schooling race early on in the year but the horses then just weren’t right for a while. We had a few problems with rapeseed oil for a while and horses bleeding. “She works well and I’m not overly surprised that she won.” Additional reporting by Alan Magee
