Carrytheone got off the mark on his third start in the mile maiden at the Curragh.

Shane Kelly had a lovely position in second as the pair tracked Yulong Magicreef all the way to the two pole.

The leader came under pressure there, and Carrytheone was pushed along to head him a furlong and a half down.

The 5/2 joint favourite showed plenty of boot to go for home and forged on well to win a shade snugly by half a length from a staying-on Finans Bay (4/1).

There was a six-length gap back to Daylight Come at 4/1.

Trainer Johnny Murtagh said: “He’s improving all the time. He’s a big horse and is mentally a bit immature. Shane has done a good job on him. We’ve the hood on him as he’s a bit keen at home, a bit buzzy, but he’s starting to relax into it now.

“I think whatever he does this year, he’ll be even better next year.

“The syndicate is from Melbourne and I met them when I was over in Australia. Lope de Vega was doing well over there, so I had this fella to sell to them.

“It’s their first winner in Ireland and I know they were all looking at the race, so I’m thrilled for them.

“He could run in one of those Premier Handicaps for three-year-olds. Hopefully he’ll progress and I think he has a chance of being a Stakes horse.”

The form of Carrytheone's runner-up finish over course and distance behind Delphi had been boosted when the winner came out and scored again.
