Hero Blues justified good support in the Glashouse Hotel Maiden at Fairyhouse when coming with a strong run under in-form jockey Gary Carroll to land the spoils.
The Ger Lyons-trained gelding was making his third career outing and continued his progressive form as he swooped inside the final furlong.
Having been asked for an effort early in the straight the 7/2 shot (7/1 this morning) started to motor in the closing stages and got his head in front inside the final 100 yards for a length-and-a-quarter success over 85/40 favourite The Franchise
“He's good and genuine, that's what he's got going for him,” said Lyons.
“He showed a good turn of foot. He'll obviously be a mile-and-a-quarter horse in time but he's just not there yet physically or mentally.
“I didn't think he'd know enough for that. Ultimately he'll go down the road of handicaps, as all of the three-year-olds are. It's nice and Gary is on fire.
“He handled that, they are saying the ground is lovely out there and my two liked that.
“Seven is as short as he wants, they had him off the bridle turning in and he just stayed at it. His attitude is the thing to take out of it.”
It was a quick double on the card for Carroll who had taken the previous race on Warrior Brave
