Gary Carroll made use of Champion Jockey Colin Keane's Breeders Cup absence as he filled in for the winning ride on the Ger Lyons trained Bucky Larson in the Hollywoodbets Handicap at Dundalk today.
Dual-Champion Jockey Keane rides Lyons' Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Siskin in tomorrow's Breeders Cup Mile at Keenland and at Dundalk tonight, the trainer's second jockey Carroll filled in with a nicely timed challenge on Bucky Larson, coming from off the pace, to gain a half-length win over Harriet's Force
Lyons' brother and assistant Shane later reported “he deserved that win. He was very unlucky in a couple of premier handicaps this year, especially in Leopardstown when he went down the brave man's route, was getting a lovely run and then got stopped.
“He's a proper horse on good ground, he loves that mile and a fast run pace. He's had a busy old campaign so that'll be it for the year and we're delighted to sign off on a good note.
“He'll be campaigned next year in all those good mile handicaps.”
