Cape Bridgewater completed a quick double for Wayne Lordan, as he made virtually all in the concluding Racing Again On July 4th At Tipperary Maiden.
Twice a runner-up at Dundalk, the Aidan O'Brien-trained bay finished down the field on heavy ground at the Curragh on his most recent start.
Sent off an easy-to-back 15/2 chance (from 5/2 early), the son of Australia soon got to the front from his wide draw in 11.
Strongly pressed from early in the straight and joined from the two furlong pole, he battled on gamely when ridden, regaining the lead inside the final furlong before going on to score by two-and-a-quarter lengths.
The Jim Bolger-trained Teorie (16/1 from 33s early) ran on late to take second under Rory Cleary, while Galileo's Compass (10/3) was a neck back in third.
A stable companion to the winner, Milwaukee was sent off the 9/4 favourite and he finished fifth under Seamie Heffernan.
"Wayne gave him a lovely ride from the front, he had a couple of good runs in maidens already and he appreciated the step up in trip," Chris Armstrong, stable representative, said.
"They went a nice tempo throughout, he is a horse who stays very well, is typical of Australia - very genuine and he'll be one who we will let work his way through the grades in handicaps.
"It is nice to get him off the mark and he should pick up a handicap or two over a trip."
Lordan claimed the previous contest aboard Tastyee for Ken Budds.
STEWARDS REPORTS
J.A. Heffernan, rider of Milwaukee (USA), trained by A.P.O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount hung right in the straight.
D.P. McDonogh, rider of The Great Kingdom trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount ducked left past the stands.
The Raceday Stewards interviewed S. Foley, rider of Galileo's Compass, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence, S. Foley admitted that he had hit his mount on the third stride on one occasion. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that S. Foley was in breach of R10(3)(i) by using his whip without allowing his mount at least three strides to respond. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Raceday Stewards suspended S. Foley for four racedays.
