The Gordon Elliott-trained Aston Cantlow just prevailed at the line in a thrilling finish to the concluding bumper at Kilbeggan this evening.
There was drama early in the race as clear leader Up The Hill veered left and unseated Iain Corrigan after four furlongs.
The incident came shortly after the leader had narrowly avoided a steward crossing the road. A group of stewards had been on the course after a child ran across the track.
Table Tips inherited the lead but was narrowly headed with two furlongs to run as Cacheofgold kicked for home.
David O'Leary remained calm on the 5/4 favourite and asked her to regain the advantage inside the final furlong.
She was all out in the closing stages, however, as Aston Cantlow charged home and Nina Carberry got her mount's head in front where it mattered to secure a short-head victory.
The 5/1 winner had been well-beaten in one previous outing in England when twelfth in a Warwick bumper in December 2012.
“I thought his head was just down at the right time but it was close,” revealed Carberry.
“He's a big horse and it was a bit sharp for him around there.”
