Canadian shows his Steel in Downpatrick Canadian Steel enjoyed himself with a clear-cut success in the extended two mile seven handicap chase at Downpatrick. Jody McGarvey's mount drew 13 lengths clear at 8/1 from Maureen's Star (9/1). Mr Bolt (25/1) completed the placings a further two and a quarter lengths away. Trainer Noel Kelly said: "He was just a bit unlucky the last day. He came here today and he had a run under his belt and we fancied him. He was in good enough form. "I think the small field suits him better than a big field. There's only one way to ride him, he has to be held up. You ride him as if he is going to be placed not to win because he is too keen. There's no point in taking on 16 or 18 runners. "There was too front-runners and they cut each others throats. "He doesn't travel great, I had him England a couple of times and he sweats up nervously. Even travelling to Tramore he got off the box and started to sweat and shake. He's a nervous type of horse. "I don't think the handicapper is going to be sore on a horse of that age."
