Jim Crowley had a suspension for improper riding reduced at a hearing of the Jockey Club`s disciplinary committee this morning.
The conditional jockey appealed against the decision of the Sedgefield stewards to suspend him for 10 days last Friday when he continued on an injured horse.
The officials at the County Durham track found him in breach of Rule 153 (iii) and Instruction H18, which deals with a rider`s responsibilities to lame or exhausted horses.
The committee heard evidence from the rider and viewed video recordings of the race and found that he had failed to dismount as soon as possible from a lame horse.
However, it reduced the rider`s ban to the seven days on which jumps racing is due to take place from Monday September 11th to 24th.
Crowley`s mount Eastwell Minstrel finished six lengths adrift of Hazemore Speed when second in a novice hurdle but had been challenging for the lead before blundering at the final flight and suffering a tendon injury.
Eastwell Minstrel had to be destroyed after the race.
