Byron overcomes testing conditions Gordon Lord Byron overcame his dislike of the testing conditions to claim the sprint handicap at Tipperary. Fran Berry tracked the leaders on the 5/1 joint favourite before hitting the front at the furlong pole. Tom Hogan's charge kept on well in the closing stages and held the late charge of Luisant by half a length. "He's not in love with the ground but he has a bit of class," said Hogan afterwards. "He's a lot stronger as a four-year-old. There aren't many opportunities for him here now and we'll try and find another handicap for him." The other joint-favourite Kateeva raced prominently before fading to finish eighth. (GC & TW)
