Apprentice jockey Daryl Byrne has made giant strides in recent weeks and, following on from riding five consecutive winners from October 12 to 21, landed the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap Final, on Mid Mon Lady at Leopardstown today.
Byrne, who is attached to Mid Mon Lady's trainer Harry Rogers, was partnering his sixth winner of the season and his third in the Derrinstown Series.
Mid Mon Lady's Harry Rogers later reported “there's a ten furlong Listed race at Dundalk next month and we'll have a look at it for her. However she is a nice horse to look forward to next year and is improving all the time. However she has to come out of the stalls slowly as she raced a little too keenly otherwise – Daryl gets on very well with her.”
The Derrinstown Series itself was won by Champion Apprentice-elect Gary Carroll, who partnered five winners to top the table, one winner ahead of Shane Foley.
