Apprentice jockey Daryl Byrne won his third race in a week when taking the opening Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap at Cork on the Harry Rogers trained Gandolfini
Gandolfini chased the leaders before progressing to lead inside the final furlong, eventually recording a four and a half lengths win.
Afterwards Rogers reported “Gandolfini deserved that win and was unlucky up the North two runs back when he couldn't get a run. Daryl gave him a good ride and we'll go for something similar again next.”
Eighteen year old Byrne, a son of ex-jockey Niall Byrne from Kildare, was recording his fourth career success.
