A Ballydoyle double at Killarney was completed by So Wonderful in the Listed M.D. O’Shea & Sons Vincent O’Brien Ruby Stakes.
The same stable’s Eden Quay and Padraig Beggy went their separate ways soon after the start, and Seamie Heffernan on So Wonderful added to the earlier gains for Aidan O’Brien horses, with San Martino (Wayne Lordan) in the first.
She’s always had the class but So Wonderful was painfully slow about putting a win on the board.
Last time it all came right when she shed the maiden tag at the 15th time of asking, and as often happens once the breakthrough win was achieved a second comes following on closely behind.
Many held chances until late on here, and it was only just that So Wonderful gained the day, by a nose and a nose from Up Helly Aa and Helvic Dream
"She’s not short of ability and was placed in a Classic,” reasoned Heffernan.
“She is very talented and very easy to like but often she doesn't do what we expected her to do. She’s a Listed winner now off 107 though, so I'm happy."
P.B. Beggy, rider of Eden Quay trained by A.P.O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount ducked right leaving the stalls and unseated.
