After his close fourth placing here on Sunday Stop On Red ran out an impressive winner in the Join Us On Instagram @dundalk_stadium Handicap.
Chris Hayes was aboard the Mehmas gelding for the in-form Jimmy Coogan yard, and he added to the Curragh gains on home soil for that outfit with 80/1 shocker Abeona at HQ on Saturday.
He may have looked short at a price of 6/5, but not a bit of it with Stop On Red, as after a patient steer he asserted away inside the inside the final furlong for a three length verdict over Rosa Dartle
“He’s a right little horse — he never runs a bad race,” commented Coogan.
“If they went more pace on Sunday I thought he’d have won. He loves to come from off a good pace.
“He stays a mile well and I think he’d even stay a bit further. He’s a tough little bugger and has a great temperament. He’ll go straight home now and eat and sleep.
“I’ll give him a fortnight off now, in and out of the paddock. Just freshen him up.
“I think he’d handle a bit of a cut on the turf although he operates around here lovely.”
S. Foley, rider of Lust For Life trained by Ciaran Murphy, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount never handled the track.
D. McMonagle, rider of My Friend Fred trained by T.G.McCourt, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount leaned right up the straight.
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Lust For Life, trained by Ciaran Murphy, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be blowing hard post race.
