Adam Browne-Souza enjoyed a red letter day at Dundalk as he partnered his first winner aboard Crystal Luna in the opening sprint handicap.

Browne-Souza is the latest graduate from the pony racing scene to make an impact on the racecourse.

He produced the Danny Murphy-trained filly to challenge off a strong pace passing the furlong pole and the 10/1 shot kept on well in the closing stages to post a three-parts-of-a-length win over Hastily

It was a second career victory for Crystal Luna after her success over course and distance in December.

The winning rider said:- "I'm 16 and from Tipperary.

"I'm riding out for Andy Slattery and am apprenticed there now as I've left school. I'm full-time with the Slatterys.

"Danny rang me Monday evening and told me he would be interested in booking me. I'm very grateful for it.

"She gave me a lovely ride, she carried me the whole way through the race."

Danny Murphy said: "I saw him riding here the other day, and his father and mother would be great friends of mine. Adam is Willie Browne's grandson.

"His father and I have done breeze ups through the years and he said to have a look at him.

"That mare is quirky now, but he gave her an absolute peach of a ride. He's got a bright future if he can get it together.

"If a kid gets a chance, it is amazing what you can turn them into. I'm an apprentice man, I had two Group winners in the last year and both were ridden by apprentices - Oisin McSweeney and James Ryan.

"I'm delighted for that kid and I'm delighted for his parents."
