Owners Sean and Bernardine Mulryan and trainer Martin Brassil enjoyed their second winner of Galway 2018 when You Raised Me Up ran out victorious in the concluding Good Time For A Guinness INH Flat Race on Ladies Day.
Jamie Codd, back off injury, rode his first winner since Sizing Coal at Fairyhouse in April, forcing home You Raised Me Up (9/4 from 5/2 on track, and bigger earlier) by a length and a half from Doctor Duffy (11/8 favourite from 2/1 on course, and bigger earlier).
The Mulryans own You Raised Me Up in partnership with Chiat Kwong Ching, and they have plenty to look forward to as City Island impressed in a maiden hurdle at Ballybrit yesterday.
"It took a time for the penny to drop with him but he had a lovely run in Punchestown and his owners like to come to this festival and have a couple of runners so the plan was to bring those two here but you need luck on your side after all that," said Brassil.
"It's fantastic - a great result. Like City Island Listowel would be a possibility for him too. We'll have a look. I was surprised how well he handled the ground. I felt he was more of a good to yielding horse but as they get older they can tolerate it better."
The Stewards met to consider reports from Mr. Frank Clune, IHRB Security Officer and Dr. Lynn Hillyer, IHRB Senior Veterinary Officer concerning the manner in which William Coleman O'Brien, trainer, had failed to cooperate when requested on arrival to present the passport for his charge Antiqua Son. Mr. Clune stated that he requested the passport for Antigua Son from Mr O'Brien when the animal was entering the stable yard. He further stated that Mr O'Brien questioned his role in requesting passports as he was not a member of the veterinary team and acted in an aggressive manner. Dr. Hillyer stated that she introduced herself to the trainer but she had also encountered an aggressive attitude which was both unnecessary and unacceptable. Mr O'Brien denied that he had acted in an aggressive manner but accepted during interrogation that he was unaware of the changes to Rule 90 (i) (Identification and Vaccinations Checks). He apologised for his failure to be familiar with the Rules pertaining to the presentation of passports at the racecourse. Having considered the reports and all the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that William Coleman O'Brien was in breach of Rule 272 in that his behaviour to Officials was unacceptable and furthermore found him to be in breach of Rule 147 (i) by failing to familiarise himself with the change to Rule 90 (i). Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards fined William Coleman O'Brien & euro;500.
Under the provisions of Rule 90 (iii), the Stewards allowed Moondust Magic trained by Seamus Fahey, to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the horse was correctly vaccinated in accordance with Rule 91.
