Brandy gains valuable bumper win Kala Brandy stayed on strongly in the closing stages to run out a convincing winner of the concluding bumper at Wexford this afternoon. There were plenty in with chances turning for home in the two-and-a-half mile contest as the challengers spread across the track after front-runner Special Princess gave way. 3/1 shot Kala Brandy soon grabbed the lead and Sonny Carey gave her a strong drive to record a three-and-a-half length victory over Tigroney. 15/8 favourite Ten Times Better was one of those to hold every chance entering the straight and eventually finished third. The Tim Townend-trained winner had just prevailed for the runner-up spot on her last outing at Thurles behind easy winner Honeys Joy. "She is a not a bad mare and hopefully now she can progress to win a maiden hurdle," said Townend, father of leading rider Paul. "She will make a nice broodmare and she is actually closely related to Oscar Whisky. "It depends on the ground where she goes now. If there is one between them in the jockeys championship we might run her somewhere for Paul!" (Additional reporting by Donal Murphy)
