Bowe and Russell off to a Flyer Davy Russell out of luck at Galway yesterday, slipping up when still in with every chance on Rule The World in thetote.com Galway Plate, landed the opening Guinness Dublin Porter Beginners Chase on Ladies Day at Ballybrit. Riding the well-supported Shantou Flyer, he duelled throughout with favourite, As De Ferbet, and he ended up with two and a quarter lengths in hand over the 'jolly.' Backed in from around 4/1 earlier on, into 11/4, the victor was scoring at the third attempt over fences. "He's been a good hurdle horse. He was only touched off in a Grade 2 hurdle at Navan one day and he was due a bit of luck," said winning trainer Colin Bowe (also had the fourth home in Gold Patrol). "He got a great ride. I was afraid of him being a small bit novicey but he jumped brilliantly - he never missed a beat and we're delighted. He's got a very nice owner in Sean O'Neill." For his part Russell remarked: "He done it well. His jumping was a credit to Colin and the team. He jumped from fence to fence. "He's a good honest horse that stays very well. He's an idle type, he'll never win by too far." (TW & EM)
