Much to the annoyance of those that made her the 6/4 favourite, the tough Yellow Rosebud failed by just a head to pull the Listed Arthur Guinness European Breeders Fund Corrib Fillies Stakes out of the fire. The one she couldn't peg back was the second one in in the betting, Lady Wingshot the head victor under Kevin Manning at Galway.
Pat Smullen was 'rowing-away' in the dip on Yellow Rosebud from his wide draw and in the straight Manning was making the best of his way home on Lady Wingshot. She got to the front inside the last from Rock On Ciara and then gamely held the late charge of Yellow Rosebud.
An initial staging of a Listed event at the Summer Festival, the honour of landing this valuable pot went to trainer Jim Bolger and owner Ballylinch Stud.
Manning said of the victorious Lawman filly: "She did it well. She was a smart two-year-old. She was a shade unlucky at Naas last week when she never got a gap on the rails and she went to the line on the bridle.
"She has plenty of pace and when they have plenty of pace like that you can manoeuvre your way easier. They are two good fillies (Lady Wingshot and the 2nd, Yellow Rosebud) and it was a great winner to get." (TW & EM)
