The featured Holden Plant Rentals Shamrock Handicap Chase was run in really attritional conditions as driving rain swept across Gowran Park.
6/1 chance Bois De Clamart who had won over further at the Kilkenny venue in November, battled on well in the home straight to complete a double for Richie Deegan after Backintheroom in the opener.
The Liz Doyle-trained eight-year-old tracked 3/1 favourite Rebel Gold as they turned in and, despite hitting the second-last, took that one’s measure before the final fence. A mistake at the last saw Rebel Gold empty on the run-in as Gevrey kept on for second place but he was never a threat to the winner who scored by seven lengths despite being less than fluent himself at the last.
Deegan said: "He likes the track and loves the ground.
“It was Liz’s idea to drop him back in trip and I thought he’d be ok on that ground.
“He travelled everywhere and I was actually getting there a bit too soon. He won well.”
