Blinkers do the trick on Sayesse Easy-to-back Sayesse (12/1) won on his second start for the Gavin Cromwell yard in split two of the Join Gowran Park Racing Club Handicap. Formerly with Mick Channon and Lisa Williamson in the UK Sayesse was equipped with first-time blinkers for this assignment, and he had Conor Maxwell in the plate for the initial occasion. It all came together nicely for the son of Sayif as he convincingly beat Rudisha and Newgirlintown by three and a half lengths and three lengths. Gambled-on favourite Lady Scathach (3/1 into 9/4) faded into sixth. “He looked well handicapped when I got him as he was up around the 80s at one stage,” said Cromwell. “I'd say he saves a little bit for himself and the headgear obviously did a bit of a job on him. “He never travelled a bit the last day, he has plenty of pace but he'd just fallen out of love with the game a little bit. The blinkers seemed to work on him. “He's in again at Wolverhampton on Saturday night.” (GC & EM)
