Blackcastle Storm makes all under Coen Blackcastle Storm made all in the BBFC Handicap, battling on gamely to hold off the challenge of recent winner Yokkell. Successful once from 15 starts in the UK when trained by Richard Hughes, the five-year-old gelding failed to make an impact on his first two tries for Matthew Smith. An encouraging fourth at Leopardstown early last month, he followed-up on that effort by filling the runner-up spot behind stablemate Snag It on his most recent outing. Sent off a 12/1 chance this evening, the son of Showcasing went straight to the front under Jake Coen. He was pressed and ridden with over a furlong to race but kept finding under pressure and came home half-a-length to the good. .Yokkell (11/4f) tried hard to reel-in the winner but he ultimately had to settle for second under Jamie Powell for Jarlath Fahey, while Action Motion (7/1) was another two-and-a-quarter lengths back in third. "He ran a cracker the last day. He has a good long stride and likes to gallop away," Smith said of the Up The Bog Road Syndicate owned gelding. "Jake said he was kind of idling a bit and when the other horse came to him, he picked up again. He was tough now. "That was his first try over that trip and he appears to stay well."
