Goulane Chosen provided Conna trainer Seamus Spillane with his biggest success to-date when landing the Holden Plant Rentals Shamrock Handicap Chase at Gowran Park.
This meeting was only given the go ahead after a precautionary inspection this morning, and the heavy ground conditions took its toll with just five of the 12 runners completing the 2m2f distance as six horses were pulled up.
Donie McInerney ’s mount took control of the €50,000 event in the straight, with the 9/1 chance galloping on strongly to beat La Bella Vida by seven lengths.
The top-weight Three Wise Men kept on to fill third spot another two and a half lengths adrift.
Spillane's son Denis said, “He had a brilliant run the last day in Thurles when he was coming there to challenge and burst through the last. We were fairly confident coming today but it was a big step up for him.
“We might keep the Galway Plate in mind if the ground turned up soft. He'd go on a bit better ground but soft ground would help him.”
