Benson steers a clear path on Ridge Solent Ridge’s win in the Campile Aprentice Handicap completed an opening races double at Wexford this evening for trainer Ger Lyons. Ridden by capable apprentice Danny Benson, the son of Namid avoided some early mayhem and was produced to lead under a furlong out to eventually defeat Snap Alam. The winner was fortunate not to be brought down at the first bend where Rock Of Hope, on the inner, was squeezed for room and slipped up, bringing down Black N Brew in the process. Afterwards Shane Lyons, representing his brother Ger Lyons, said “Danny gave Solent Ridge a good intelligent ride. Danny has been showing us at home what he could do and has transferred that onto the racecourse now. Solent Ridge is a horse who doesn’t like being slapped but Danny didn’t panic and was very clever. I was a little worried about the trip for Solent Ridge today.” Thomas Weekes
