Beef Or Salmon odds-on for Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup.

Cashmans Bookmakers have updated their betting for Sunday’s Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup at Leopardstown on Sunday and now have a market for four of the day’s eight races.

The betting for Ireland’s Gold Cup is headed by Michael Hourigan’s star chaser Beef Or Salmon while his six rivals look to have a fair bit to find on paper to cause an upset.

Cashmans make Beef Or Salmon their 4/9 favourite, with Edward O’Grady’s Pizarro at 9/2, last season’s Sun Alliance Chase winner Rule Supreme at 6/1, British import Murphy’s Cardinal at 8/1 and Charles Byrnes’ Cloudy Bays at 20/1. Jack High (50/1) and Herzov (66/1) complete the line-up.

The other two Grade 1 contests on the day are the Deloitte Novice Hurdle and the Dr PJ Moriarty Novice Chase.

The Dr PJ Moriarty Novice Chase has attracted an all Irish entry of nine with both JP McManus’ Mark The Man and Like-A-Butterfly unlikely to compete against eachother. Like-A-Butterfly is due to run should anything happen to Mark The Man and is the only runner quoted at SP odds.

Newmill is the 6/4 favourite, 2/1 Mark The Man, 6/1 Carrigeen Victor, 7/1 Strong Project, 8/1 Well Presented, 12/1 Leading The Way, 16/1 Doodle Addle and 20/1 Il En Reve.

There is plenty of speculation regarding a few of the entries in the Deloitte Novice Hurdle with Cashmans offering SP odds for six of the entries. Included are ex-French Sunspot (doubtful due to a setback), Rocket Ship (will only run if ground improves), Blazing Liss, Dusky Warbler and Philip Fenton’s pair Simon and Sher Beau.

Cashmans bet;

2/1 Royal Paradise, 7/2 Sweet Kiln, 7/1 The Railway Man, 8/1 Augherskea, 10/1 Kerryhead Windfarm, New Field, Publican, 12/1 Mr Macauley, 14/1 Wishwillow Lord, 16/1 Black Apalachi, Lissbonney Project, 20/1 Arteea, 25/1 Proud To Be Irish, Reine Des Reines.

The opening race, the Grade 2 Cashmans Juvenile Hurdle, has also been priced up with the field headed by Noel Meade’s Arch Rebel.

11/8 Arch Rebel, 3/1 Strangely Brown, 4/1 Don’t Be Bitin, 5/1 Dalton, 8/1 Majlis, 16/1 Dabiroun, 20/1 Barati, SP Karelian (doubtful runner)
